A little project to keep my banners fresh, that I called Banner Freaks! THis is Rancid Rob, the first of a collection I'm hoping to keep up with. Thoroughly enjoyed doing this as it wasn't something we've never seen before or anything, overly complicated and had a bit of humour to it. Created and rendered in Zbrush and photoshop for the final touch ups.

In the spirit of tribal aliens....and testing Fibremesh...

...I decided to do this guy! I wanted to play around with the new Fibremesh feature in Zbrush and sculpted up this guy to do so. I've always loved the Babirusa boar, which was the inspiration for the growing tusks from his face. The hair was what consumed most of this image, as I'd never used it before, but after a little while, I got used to the settings and was kinda happy with the result, so I thought I'd share. The sculpt took around 1.5 hours and finished the piece in an evening after work with colour etc. But Fibremesh, now learned, looks to be a powerful tool!

Maker of Dreams.

Well, it's been an embarrassingly long time since I last did any personal work. This was a very rushed attempt to get something done yesterday after work to update this blog before the internet kicks me off for loitering! It was a lazy sculpt again, and not intended to be any "concept art"more experimentals of the mental kind. I decided to call him Maker of Dreams, or the Sandman.
I created him using Zbrush and Photoshop.

Serenyan Design - New Zbrush test

So last week I received the update for Zbrush. The new features are really incredible this round. I've been using it a lot for work and wanted to do a personal piece testing some features. This was an alien design for a project of mine that I thought I'd use to test out. I sculpted this all from a sphere using Dynamesh, posed using transpose master and final render using the new lightcap features. I did the final layout in Photoshop, but the bulk of the work was Zbrush. Really fast turnaround of a couple of hours with the flexibility of Dynamesh! I'll do some more renders of this character soon! Here's the sculpt so far.

TAO
Here's a piece I've done for the Unscripted Exhibition . I started the concept for this ages ago, but never had the time to finish it. When we were asked for entries for this, I thought it was very appropriate as this fella didn't really belong to anything I was working on. So in essence, he's VERY unscripted. I made the piece feel a little more "painterly"for the printing and it seemed to have payed off. I'll be selling small A4 prints of this guy, and also one large A2 framed piece. I'll show the other pieces I'm exhibiting in a future post once they've been photographed. In the mean time, here is Tao. :)

Demon Girl

So 3 posts in one day! I have actually been busy doing a chapter for a "tips and techniques" for Zbrush. This is one of the images, as well as a few from here that will be in the book. But more on that soon! This lady has been 3D printed, by the awesome guys at ownage and is awaiting painting! So I will post the photo's when she's done.

alien head
Considering the weather was quite shite today, I decided to stay in, and play on my laptop, I cranked this guy out in a few of hours. Used me good old tools, Zbrush and Photoshop and had a bit of help from my brain and hands. Started with an old base from another model. Just a bit of fun playing on my new bamboo and pretty happy with what I was able to do. Definitely recommend them to anyone wanting to get one for your laptop, painting on the couch has never been so fun! :)

The Sik

Which has been me for the last couple of days, have been battlin a cold. But decided to draw something on those lines. But perhaps I'll think of a better name for him, because I'm quite happy with the design. I might sculpt this up, as well as post the concept drawing (when I ge the scanner working).
Got the scanner working and added the sketch. I carry around a little A5 sketch book, which I tend to just sketch down idea's, nothing more than 5 minute doodles. You never know when those ideas will arrive, so I find being prepared with paper and pencil at hand, handy for when I get inspired. This sketch was just something I thought of, and the painting changed quite a bit, as I'm sure the sculpt will take more a life of it's own. Cheers.
