Some digital maquetting... and a kappa

This guy was meant to be a study of a generic male, for anatomy purposes you know... I tried sculpting it without symmetry to learn not to rely on it all the time and this is what came out! Digital sculptors be warned, this is what can happen to you when you rely on symmetry too much! ;) But this chap earned himself the name Jonny one Finger and is sporting his very own pair of undies here. Hard to understand sometimes as he only has one tooth, and whistles when he talks. A very clingy guy who likes to stroke your hair!

A sketch of the gillman. A quick study and homage to a classic design I've always loved.

... and a break away from the bad guy's at work, to do a Kappa at rest.

The digital maquettes were sculpted in Zbrush, just a couple of hours on each for fun. They were then rendered in Maya using MentalRay. Final comp in Photoshop. The Kappa was done with good old graphite!

Beware, the Tokolosh!

Growing up in South Africa, you can't avoid hearing stories of this creepy guy coming to get you! Here is a version I did, not based on any particular description... but he's a nasty bugger! I created this on me laptop, with Zbrush and Photoshops! :)

Bapho - Zbrush work flow

I have been working in my spare time to contribute to a great book being done by the guy's at streetwisepr . I will be doing a chapter showing how I created this guy. It's a workflow I use regularly at work, especially for creature or character design. I will publish more on the workflow when the book is being released, meanwhile, here are the fruits of the labour! Hope you enjoy.

Demon Girl

So 3 posts in one day! I have actually been busy doing a chapter for a "tips and techniques" for Zbrush. This is one of the images, as well as a few from here that will be in the book. But more on that soon! This lady has been 3D printed, by the awesome guys at ownage and is awaiting painting! So I will post the photo's when she's done.

Manifest

This was a personal piece I've called Manifest. I will be selling prints of this soon, and will make another post when they're available... if anyone would like one, please contact me :) It's my stab at something abstract, yet something real? An exploration in forms and colour.

dragony beasty!

Here's a wee beasty I did a sketch of ages ago. Did a photoshop pass over the top, and thought I'd post it up. There's a body to this guy, and also a plan to sculpt two of them battling! So more to come on this guy. But I figured, who doesn't like giant reptiles battling? So I'm going to get onto that as soon as I can!

Daphnia Pulex

Two posts in one day, wow!
This is a study I did recently of "Daphnia Pulex", a type of Water Flea. I'm always inspired by artists who can create such life like creatures using anatomies that aren't human. So I would like to try keeping up doing studies like this. I found a few microscopy pictures of these guy's that inspired me to do a study of them to absorb those, somewhat aggressive shapey shapes!

Me old Uni model...paint over

I did this guy when I was trudgin through University oh 5 years ago now. Decided to do a little paint over and post it up here.

brain jobby

That's what I think happened when I came up with this guy! One part, angler fish, one part lizard, one part.... ah, who knows. He's a bit of an abomination that was some fun to draw, and earned himself the name. Who knows, maybe one day we'll see little chaps like this in every household?

alien head

Considering the weather was quite shite today, I decided to stay in, and play on my laptop, I cranked this guy out in a few of hours. Used me good old tools, Zbrush and Photoshop and had a bit of help from my brain and hands. Started with an old base from another model. Just a bit of fun playing on my new bamboo and pretty happy with what I was able to do. Definitely recommend them to anyone wanting to get one for your laptop, painting on the couch has never been so fun! :)

Demon...wooarrr!

I enjoy doing sketches like this. I find it a great way to explore an idea. It's not about the rendering, more about trying to grasp that idea that's stuck in your brain somewhere. Pushed these around for about an hour each, was kinda happy with the result so thought I'd post it up here seein as it's been a while, however I just got an awesome laptop, and will soon post some more sketchiness from that soon!

Homo ergaster Study.

This was a project I started a while ago. I was able to do a 3D scan of the Nariokotome Boy skull, which I'm still busy doing some 3D sculpting on, but also decided to do my own version of a Homo Ergaster, which was this piece. Will upload more of the sculpting work here as I get them done. Done in Zbrush and photoshop.

A Alien

I did this sketch for a project of mine, but didn't feel the overall design was what I wanted, but rather liked it anyway for what it was. Jut a quicky done in Photoshops.

The Sik part 2

I decided a while ago to do a full body, of the portrait study I did earlier of this guy. I've called this done, as it's been sittin around for a while so, out with the old, in with the new. It was a fun character study, and environment. It was painted in Photoshop.
